Rolling for Awareness

Saldanha to Cape Town in a Wheelchair

160 Kilometres in normal wheelchairs!

Both Glenn Ward and Dries Millard were in car accidents that left them paralysed from the chest down. On 3 December 2010, International Disability Awareness Day, these two brave young lads embarked on an epic journey to raise awareness on disability.  With wind blowing straight in their faces at 30 knots hey rolled a whopping distance of a 160km in their normal wheelchairs without any assistance!

It took them 5 Days in total to reach the city centre of Cape Town from Saldanha Bay. Each day for 5 days on end they rolled between 20 and 30 kilometres. They showed that their disabilities was not enough to put them down. This was a great example of positive state of mind and tremendous perseverance.

Walking / Rolling the Daisies 2014

Creating disability awareness and supporting the green movement by rolling to Rocking the Daisies

This epic two day journey of 54km along pristine West Coast beaches and protected Fynbos started off at Big Bay on Wednesday 1 October. Walking the daisies was hosted in conjunction with the Rocking the Daisies Music Festival that took place on Kloof Wine Estate in Darling, Western Cape. The daisy walkers, and roller, contributed to the Festivals renowned eco friendly status by walking instead of driving to the festival in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the festival.

Dries Millard from Extreme Abilities joined the walking party and completed the journey in his wheelchair. His chair was slightly modified to handle the harsh out door terrains. He showed true will power and demonstrated that with the right mind set and good friends, anything can be accomplished. He aims to complete the journey again next year, but this time with a few other rollers along his side in order to further raise awareness on disability.
